Nutrition

Proper nutrition is especially critical during key stages of life, that is why it is important to us

Farming Projects

One of the biggest problems in Uganda is hunger. 10.1 million people in Uganda are suffering from hunger and food insecurity. Hunger is one of the leading causes of death in Uganda with an abundant amount of resources in the county, Un equal access and inefficient handling leaves millions of people malnourished.

Most of the families in the local vulnerable communities can afford three meals aday and if any can, they cant have a balanced diet. This has caused malnutrition ,deficiency diseases, starvation and eventually death.

As the flourishing Communities Foundation Uganda, we have put a lot of emphasis in providing food by creating community gardens and teaching people how to carry out farming inorder to end hunger. We believe that food is the first basic need that everyone deserves to have in life.

If children are to grow well and perforem well at school, they need to be properly nourished. We discovered  another nutritional problem called hidden hunger .

Children and families rely on food stuffs such as cassava, maize, sweet potatoes with meat, fish, eggs and fruits being too expensive. Often families only have one meal aday and skip others.

Nutrition and Gardening

We have set up the food Basket gardens that offer healtier foods to 120 families.

We grow the foods organically without any sythentic materials and they are so  nutritious.

The community is actively engaged in the gardening duties and people learn a lot of what is done in the garden and they can apply it for themselves.

There is a need of widening the gardens inorder to reach more people dying of hunger everday.

We are also looking at setting up a yard where we can grow cashcrops like coffee, Tea, Cotton etcfor Agri-businesses, the profits from the Agri-businesses can then be used to support other organizations projects likr Medicare and Education. Our gardens are also ready for Agro-tourism.

We are currenyly working on offering an egg a day to the community to end hidden hunger. This is going to be done through our poultry project that is ongoing.

Offering an egg everyday to the community will make them healthier as the proverb says an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Below is the plan and budget for the poultry project

We are also starting to produce a nutritious porridge called Nutrimix for the children to fight marasmus and kwashiorkor

Nutirimix porridge has been made with all the body required nutrients added
